When seeing a shooting star one night, Gepetto wishes that his puppet, Pinocchio, would become a real boy. That night while he's sleeping, a Blue Fairy arrives and makes Gepetto's wish come true. She offers Pinocchio a life of choices and free will, just as God did for His people. As long as Pinocchio can prove himself to be brave, truthful, and unselfish, he will become a real boy. She assigns Jiminy to be Pinocchio's conscience. Many critics say that the Blue Fairy is a representation of God himself. She represents a higher power; one who has the ability to bring an inanimate puppet to life. She gave Pinocchio a choice: he can become a real boy and receive a sort of "spiritual salvation" through "self-discipline, self-knowledge and intense will power." When Pinocchio does this,The Blue Fairy does a supernatural thing by giving Pinocchio life and many critics say she resembles God because of this.
